Compline psalms

Genesis 15:12 - As the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram, and a deep and terrifying darkness descended upon him.

Luckily, I’m an excellent sleeper; very little keeps me from a deep sleep. I know enough people who have problems sleeping that I recognize my lack of them for the blessing it is. I like sleeping a lot.

Every once in a while, I’ll wake up in the middle of the night with a work thought on my mind. I’m almost always able to push it aside, to put it on hold, to assure my brain that I’ll get to it in the morning, but that it’s outside of office hours right now. That usually works.

I sometimes have bad dreams, but those almost always fade away quickly, and even when they linger, I say a couple extra Compline psalms and that usually does the trick. I ask God to keep me from all snares of the enemy, to hide me (and my husband and my cat) under the shadow of His wing, and then usually fall back asleep easily. My deep sleeps are seldom accompanied by a deep and terrifying darkness, and for that, I am grateful.
