“Remember that at that time
you were…without hope”,
but the story didn’t end there, for
Christ is risen! He is risen indeed!
Bringing new life and new hope,
new beginnings,
new mercies and steadfast love
every morning. Eternal hope
that nothing can snatch away.
New things replacing the old
as they pass away.
New life in the grandson miraculously
growing inside my daughter’s body.
New life in a new country,
new friends, new experiences in India,
where Christ’s body is alive and well
despite the godless idols of darkness
impotently enshrined in temples everywhere.
The opportunity to love on, interact with,
and, perhaps, make a difference in
the lives of children who will
make this world a better place,
hope for the future.
The confirmation that God isn’t
finished using us to fulfill His plans.
Spring, a time of newness, the dirty snow
now watering the greening grass,
crocuses, hyacinths, tulips, daffodils
bravely standing against the cold wind.
Mallards regally swimming in my pond
while the mamas sit on hidden eggs
soon to become baby ducklings,
hope in life continuing.
Hope in the midst of senseless
Black deaths as demands for justice
accountability, and consequences
can no longer be ignored.
Voices that will no longer be silenced.
God’s promise that even in dark times
our suffering produces endurance
and builds character, which gives us a hope
that will never disappoint us.
For it is written and it is true,
“In His great mercy
He has given us new birth
into a living hope through
the resurrection of Jesus Christ
from the dead.”
He is risen! He is risen indeed
